  • 1. Why should I vote YES on the Alvin ISD 2024 bond election?
    Voting YES will help address critical needs in our district, including new student growth, renovations of aging campuses, enhanced safety and security, and acquiring land for future school sites. Approving the bond will enable a tax rate DECREASE by 2¢ for the 2025-26 year, benefiting our entire community. The tax rate will remain the same or reduce more after that.
  • 2. How does voting YES on a bond work?
    Voting YES authorizes the Board of Trustees to sell bonds, which are like a home mortgage. This allows the district to borrow money to fund school construction, capital projects, and land acquisition, repaid over time with interest.
  • 3. How much is the bond for, and what will it fund?
    The bond is for $380.1 million, and it will fund: New Elementary School: $43,569,801 New Elementary School: $48,405,025 New Junior High: $88,243,752 Manvel High School Renovations and Upgrades: $46,248,443 Alvin High School Renovations and Upgrades: $97,674,491 Replacement Campus Combining Stevenson Primary and Walt Disney Elementary: $44,333,786 Safety and Security Improvements: $14,100,000 Land Acquisition: $12,500,000
  • 4. How was the 2024 Bond developed?
    The 2024 bond proposal was developed through an in-depth process of research and community input. The Citizens' Advisory Committee, consisting of over 100 community members, elected officials and business leaders, met five times from February to May 2024. They studied growth projections, financial data, and facility conditions. This thorough review led the Committee to recommend the bond to the Board of Trustees, addressing new student growth and aging facilities, enhancing safety and security and proposing land acquisition for future school sites.
  • 5. Why do we need new schools, and why should I support them?
    Voting YES supports the construction of new schools, which are essential to accommodate the rapid student growth in our district. New schools ensure every student has access to quality education in an adequate facility.

  • 10. How can our tax rate decrease with a new bond?
    Alvin ISD successfully managed the 2018 bond projects under budget and paid off bonds early. The growth of our community, with new neighborhoods and businesses, has increased the revenue base. This added growth helps to cover school bond expenses, enabling a reduction in the tax rate even with the approval of the 2024 proposition. A YES vote ensures continued investment in our schools while reducing the tax burden.
  • 10. How will voting YES impact property tax rates?
    If Alvin ISD’s 2024 Bond passes, it will enable a tax rate DECREASE by 2¢ for the 2025-26 year. The tax rate will remain the same or reduce more after that.
  • 12. Will the 2024 Bond result in a tax rate increase?
    No. if Alvin ISD’s 2024 Bond passes, it will enable a tax rate DECREASE by 2¢ for the 2025-26 year. The tax rate will remain the same or reduce more after that. New state law requires all ballot measures to include the statement “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE,” regardless of the tax rate impact. However, passage of Alvin ISD’s bond proposition WILL NOT increase the tax rate, it will DECREASE it.

    Investing in our schools now ensures that our growing student population has access to safe, modern, and effective learning environments. A YES vote will directly contribute to the betterment of our community and the future of our children.

    Alvin ISD has a proven track record of effectively managing bond funds, as seen with the 2018 bond projects that were completed under budget. Continued community oversight and transparency will guarantee that funds are used as intended. Voting YES is a vote for responsible investment in our schools and community.
